If you would like to schedule a time for Officer Mertz and Drago to attend a particular function please contact either Chief Steffes or Officer Mertz with your request.

The Rhinelander Police Department's K-9 Unit is comprised of Sergeant Mertz and Drago vom Heiliger Huegel.  Drago is a German Shepard from Steinig Tal Kennels in Campbellsport, Wisconsin.  Drago is a Dual Purpose K9 certified in Narcotic Detection and Patrol Work.  Sergeant Mertz and Drago attended a four week Basic Handler's Certification Course at Steinig Tal Kennels.  Sergeant Mertz and Drago are on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
